Top Tips For Planning Your Wedding – The List Before The List!

So, you’re getting married, Congratulations!

Getting married can be daunting and perhaps overwhelming. Ask any bride and they’ll say that there can be so many surprises on your wedding day, I know this well as a wedding photographer who has photographed over 100 weddings but also in my experience as a bride who planned her own wedding in 9 weeks!

There’s so much to think about and each element comes with a million choices. Through it all, you want to remain authentic and true to you and your partner’s personality, making sure it’s the magical day you’ve both dreamed about.

So here are my top tips for getting started with planning your wedding:

Grab a cup of tea and write down the 4 most important things for you and your partner on your special day. These are so different for every couple…..

1. Do you have a specific venue that you love whether it’s urban or beach or perhaps somewhere in the countryside?
2 .How many guests would you prefer to have there? Perhaps an intimate ceremony would suit you better, or a large wedding with all your friends and family around you.
3. What would you both like to wear? What will suit the season and you as a couple?
4. Do you dream of pink peonies or peach David Austin roses? Which flowers suit you and your dream wedding?

Spend a few minutes every day researching wedding photographs that you LOVE and store those inspirational images in your dream wedding Pinterest board. Look at the four priorities you’ve listed in point 1, and pin images that inspire you to plan your dream wedding. Whether you’re traditional or totally alternative, you’ll find images that will help you create your perfect wedding day.

Get organised! One of the most important things for me when I was planning my own wedding was to get the information out of my head, you can do this in to ways; creating an online checklist or getting it  onto paper, and I did both! Your mind is busy enough without trying to remember the finer details. Buy yourself a beautiful folder for all of your wedding planning suppliers and notes. Separate your folder into categories such as venue, flowers, dress and photographer.

If you prefer being organised digitally then use an online checklist, I LOVE the fabulous online planning system provided by WeddingWire. These lists are completely customisable and will manage anything from your ‘to do’ lists and manage your budget, you can even track your progress on each task. This gives you lots more time to plan the fun stuff whilst feeling rest assured the important elements are taken care of!

Start looking for your wedding photographer right away. I know just how quickly a good photographer gets booked up. It’s not uncommon for me to have weddings years in advance! Find your perfect wedding photographer who just gets your personality and will capture your special day and get them booked in.

I LOVE THE IN BETWEEN MOMENTS

I have just delivered this beautiful wedding to a gorgeous couple who were married at Trevenna Barns, in Cornwall.

It’s an exciting moment when I deliver a couple’s wedding photos to them, I’m always waiting on the edge of my seat for their feedback, and it’s always lovely to hear their kind words and praise, but it’s also very sad because it is the last step of our wedding journey together.

I love getting to know my clients and finding out about their adventures together, how they met, how they got engaged, and why they chose their venue, it really helps me to capture the best in every couple on their wedding day.

I absolutely love this photo! It sums up the couple just perfectly

So in love and and so happy!

Romantic garden wedding Deer Park Hotel Devon

Romantic garden wedding Deer Park Hotel Devon

Last summer I had the pleasure of capturing Georgie and Matt on their beautiful wedding day. The couple chose the boutique hotel Deer Park in Honiton, Devon. The 18th Century Georgian mansion is a delightful bundle of wonderfulness, with 80 acres of glorious grounds, beautiful boutique hotel bedrooms, a very pretty Italian garden.

The couple opted for a really relaxed reportage approach with their wedding photography. They wanted simple and natural  portraits without lots of posed photos. So we took a walk through the gardens to find some nice clearings in the woodland to capture some beautiful environmental portraits. The bride is very beautiful and the couple were so happy and smiley throughout the entire day it made my job every easy.

The wedding was lots of fun and so relaxed at the same time. The bridesmaid dresses were in a beautiful pastel blue and looked so lovely. The couple chose a romantic classic theme for their wedding, with a pastel blue and cream colour palette. The bouquets and flower arrangements were filled with pastel garden roses. The bride’s bouquet was just stunning and pot together with cream, blue and mauve pastel flowers. Such a lovely day filled with lots of smiles, love and happiness.

Dark and stormy pre wedding shoot on Dartmoor

The start of the pre-wedding photo shoot season is well and truly in motion for 2016. What a stunning photo shoot this was, I just had to share it. We headed up to Dartmoor for a pre-wedding shoot at Widgery’s Cross, we walked up what felt like a mountain to take photos of views from the top, on the way up the heavens opened and the wind picked up considerably. Ben had to hold Jennifer’s hair because it was blowing everywhere! As you can imagine, the backdrop made for some pretty amazing photos and the couple were so awesome they didn’t let the weather dampen their love or the photo shoot.

I always offer a pre wedding photo shoot to my wedding couples. Due to my style of wedding photography being so natural and unobtrusive, I feel it really helps couples to relax in front of the lens on their wedding day. The photo shoot prepares the bride and groom for discretely being the centre of attention whilst being left to enjoy their day without any distractions. Most wedding couples that book Liberty Pearl are shy in front of the camera, therefore being exposed to this style of photo shoot before the wedding is a perfect taster of what to expect. The couples are always very happy with the results.

I am really looking forward to this fabulous couple’s wedding in October at the beautiful Tavistock Town Hall in Devon xxx

Vintage festival styled wedding photo shoot with Blue Fizz Events at Clovelly Court North Devon

We were blessed with a stunning location and beautiful weather for this spring styled wedding shoot at Clovelly Court in North Devon.  It was the first time I had visited this venue and the first thing that jumped out at me was beautiful Victorian walled gardens (Clovelly Court Gardens), I absolutely LOVE wedding venues with gardens, they are a rich source of vibrant and beautiful scenery for a photo shoot or real life wedding photos. I particularly love the old walled around these gardens, they have so much texture!

The photo shoot was styled with a vintage and festival theme. This stunning styled wedding photo shoot organised by the Devon wedding planning company Blue Fizz Events. Featuring the Blue Fizz gorgeous marquees. Blue Fizz Events’ highly professional and efficient wedding planner team will create wonderful experiences for your marquee celebration – whatever the occasion, and across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. They specialise in planning weddings, christenings, anniversary parties and corporate events – and of course they offer marquee hire too.

It was the first time I had worked with the Blue Fizz team and all I can say is that I was very impressed by their professionalism, amazing organisation, and the abundance of creative ideas they had for the photo shoot. The models were also very experienced and were great to work with.

My favourite elements of the photo shoot:
I loved all the flowers in garden especially the bed of tulips.  The bouquet was brilliant, the colours suited the theme perfectly.
The vintage dresses supplied by the wonderful Days Of Grace, who supply heirloom gowns of a vintage style for brides. These one-off designs are made from antique lace and vintage textiles and are perfect for country weddings, barefoot on the beach or a beautiful summer picnic and they are all so so beautiful.
The headdresses were all so pretty, my favourite was the Liberty Halo headdress supplied byHey Jules. The Liberty Halo is perfect for the free spirited bride.

Here are some images from our styled Vintage Festival photo shoot at Clovelly Court, Clovelly Village.
