A romantic country barn wedding in Devon with an outdoor ceremony at Upton Barn and Walled Gardens

A family affair

This particular summer wedding was especially close to the heart of Liberty Pearl Photo & Film Collective. On the 24th of July, founder Amber Leach’s brother tied the knot. Amber says, “It was an honour to capture Lauren and Kris’ special day, and to see two people that I love so in love and happy. Their country barn wedding in Devon was beautiful. Upton Barn and Walled Gardens is a stunning venue. Undoubtedly it could be lifted straight from a romantic novel. I can’t wait to return to capture more fabulous weddings!”

A contemporary country barn wedding venue

Straightaway, Lauren and Kris knew they wanted a relaxed, fun day filled with their friends and family. Because of this, they were looking for a slightly informal wedding venue. Most important in order of venue priorities, they wanted a modern barn venue, a beautiful garden setting and were hoping for an outdoor ceremony for their Devon wedding. Upton Barn and Walled garden ticked all the boxes. 

“Upton Barn has a modern barn feel and a contemporary style,” Enthuse the couple. “It has a lovely outdoor area with a pond and fountain too.”

Wedding day look

Lauren looked stunning in her a-line dress from Wtoo by Watters. Unquestionably romantic, layers of airy tulle created a voluminous skirt. Adding delicate detailing, the fitted lace bodice featured a pretty scalloped edge. A ribbon around the waist completed the dress. Kris met Lauren at the end of the aisle wearing a slate blue, three-piece suit and grey bowtie. Kris was lucky enough to have not one, but two best men. Who, along with the ushers, wore matching blue suits. And rounding up the wedding party, the couple’s three bridesmaids wore soft sage green dresses, each carrying a bouquet to match the brides. 

The “I do’s”

The happy couple were blessed with the weather. Because the rain held off, Lauren and Kris were able to have their dream outdoor ceremony. Overlooking the rolling hills of the Devonshire countryside, the walled garden at Upton Barn is filled with fragrant roses and growing blooms. The aisle is lined with lavender plants, which added to the nature-inspired wedding photography and saved the couple’s budget! Family and friends watched the happy couple make their vows as birds flew overhead and bees and butterflies busied themselves in the blooms.

Modern minimalism

Lauren and Kris thought about their guests through their wedding planning, ensuring they all had a fantastic time at their country barn wedding venue. From individual sweetie bags to a fun Photo Booth with plenty of props to keep everyone entertained in the evening, friends and family were treated to a fun-filled day.

Upton Barn and Walled Gardens has plenty of beautiful backdrops for posed photographs. Both inside and outside the modern barn venue. The couple decided not to add too much in the way of decor. The ceiling of the barn already features festoon lighting and contemporary chandeliers. The black furnishings were complemented by black wooden chairs. All the couple added were twinkling fairy lights and little vases of posies on the tables.

Sparks fly

As day turned to evening, the fire pits were lit at Upton Barn and Walled Gardens. Guests gathered, firstly to toast marshmallows at the fire pit and secondly for the couple to enjoy a sparkler send-off at the end of their country barn wedding.
