If you’re planning to propose to your significant other and need a little advice, Liberty Pearl Photo & Film Collective are here to help. From hearing about hundreds of marriage proposal stories to capturing the special moment on camera, we have a good idea of what the perfect proposal looks like. Here are some Christmas proposal ideas to ensure the word that you hear after you pop the question is “Yes!”
Take advantage of an atmospheric setting when it comes to popping the question. Festive events like the Longleat Festival of Light or the National Trust’s winter illumination trails will make an unforgettable, twinkling backdrop to your Christmas proposal.
The saying goes that ‘good things come in small packages’ and as it’s the season of giving, wrap up your ring box and place it under the tree ready to be opened on Christmas morning. This Christmas will be remembered forever!
Visit a Christmas market with your partner and surprise them by getting down on one knee in amongst the chalet-style huts, in front of an impressive Christmas tree or on an ice-skating rink with Christmas Carols providing the backing music to your marriage proposal.
If skiing or snowboarding is your thing and you’re jetting off for the mountains, pack the ring with you and when you reach the slopes write out ‘Will you marry me’ in the snow’ before you ski down as a newly engaged couple.
Replace the joke in a Christmas cracker with a handwritten note that asks the big question – just make sure it’s you and your partner that pull the cracker together!
Plan out a festive-themed treasure hunt around your local park, a favourite place or in the comfort of your home. Include clues with candy canes, a trail with mistletoe and little elves to point your partner in the right direction. The final clue that will lead to a ring box and you on bended knee.
If you’re home-birds at heart, pop the question from the cosy comfort of your sofa after watching a romantic Christmas film like The Holiday or Love Actually.
Embrace the elements on a clear night during Advent and create a little set-up for stargazing. Make a fire pit, toast marshmallows and ask for your partner’s hand in marriage as stars sparkle overhead.
This year, opt for an advent calendar that allows you to add your own choice of treats. On the final day pop in a placeholder ring and add the words ‘marry me’ to the back of the calendar door for a big surprise!
Pop the question while you are out choosing your Christmas tree at a Christmas tree farm. Or, if you always envisioned you would propose surrounded by nature, head out for a New Year’s Day walk and drop down to one knee in a scenic spot. What a start to the year!
Many people wonder how to choose the perfect engagement ring. Take note of the jewellery your other half usually wears. Do they usually opt for silver or gold? Are they drawn to pieces that are more unusual or do they like classic styles? Dainty or statement? Once you start narrowing your choices down, the search for the perfect ring will become much clearer. If you’re still unsure, opt for a placeholder ring. Then, head to the jewellers together in the new year to find the perfect engagement ring.
A few extra tips to think about when you pop the question, wherever you choose to ask:
However you choose to ask your partner to marry you, do it with heart and thought and they are sure to be over the moon. Remember that you know them better than anyone else. And, plan a proposal that feels right for you as a couple.
At Liberty Pearl Photo & Film, we have witnessed many proposals and been asked to capture them on camera. From Jason and Ellis who got engaged on boxing day, to David and Gemma who had their special moment under a moon installation at Exeter Cathedral. We love capturing these tender and exciting moments.
