Engagement photo shoot Royal William Yard Plymouth

It was a pleasure to spend the day with Gio and Gina in the Royal William Yard, Plymouth for a photo shoot after their recent engagement. The weather was cold and grey, but the views across the Plymouth sound were very beautiful.  The cute young couple are just so in love!

Why have an engagement shoot?
It’s a great opportunity for us to get to know each other so that there are no surprises on your big day. I can see you together as a couple in a ‘normal’ every day situation, and you can get to know my shooting style whilst practising and experimenting in front of the camera (and not your guests!).

As a result, I promise that your wedding day photographs will be even more amazing, because you will be entirely comfortable with what’s happening on your special day.

I am really looking forward to their wonderful wedding this autumn in Nooitgedacht Estate at the Cape winelands in Cape Town, South Africa.

Reasons to have a pre wedding shoot – part 1

I love being a wedding photographer in Devon, there are so many beautiful wedding venues, but I love pre wedding shoots and engagement sessions even more.  I think they are SO IMPORTANT for couples to consider as part of their wedding package and here’s why….

  1. Get to know your photographer and make sure you like them!
It’s a great opportunity for me to get to know my couples and for them to get to know me, so that there are no surprises on their wedding day. I think it’s really important that couple’s get along with their wedding photographer, after all they will be sharing the most important day of your life! Firstly I LOVE to hear about the proposal story, and talking and meeting new people, so finding out about my couple’s and how they met is so much fun!The Duke of Cornwall Hotel Plymouth wedding engagement
    2. You have beautiful natural photos capturing real, authentic, natural love between 2 people
The engagement session is 100% natural. There is no styling, no make up artist, no hired suits, no theme, no wedding guests, no schedule, it’s just two people in love. I can see the couple together in their natural environment and in an every day situation. The photos from the pre wedding shoot show 100% natural love and emotion between two people without any distractions.dartmoor-widgery-cross-engagement-pre-wedding-photo-shoot
    3. Practise posing in front of a camera
I don’t ‘pose’ a couple I just help them look their best by just being themselves and acting naturally. It is a very relaxed session where I encourage the couple to have a chat about something, go for a walk, hold hands, and show affection to each other. I very simple and relaxed approach to posing but the results are natural and beautiful! The couple understand my shooting style whilst practising being in front of the camera without any distractions or interruptions.

    4. You can talk about your wedding in detail
I can get to know the couple but we also get lots of time to talk about the wedding in detail. I can find out about the timings of the day, venue details, favourite locations, group photo ideas; all the elements that are most important to each couple. Every couple is so different so I ask each couple to fill out a wedding photography questionnaire, which helps me to find out what is most important to them on their wedding day. I also like to know what the wedding photos are going to be used for after the wedding, this really helps with my planning for the wedding day. I create a bespoke plan for each couple and work from this on the day to ensure I have every important detail captured.

    5. You are more relaxed on your wedding day
As a result, the couple’s wedding day photographs will be even more amazing, because they will know exactly what to expect from their wedding photographer and will feel entirely comfortable with what’s happening on the wedding day.

Dark and stormy pre wedding shoot on Dartmoor

The start of the pre-wedding photo shoot season is well and truly in motion for 2016. What a stunning photo shoot this was, I just had to share it. We headed up to Dartmoor for a pre-wedding shoot at Widgery’s Cross, we walked up what felt like a mountain to take photos of views from the top, on the way up the heavens opened and the wind picked up considerably. Ben had to hold Jennifer’s hair because it was blowing everywhere! As you can imagine, the backdrop made for some pretty amazing photos and the couple were so awesome they didn’t let the weather dampen their love or the photo shoot.

I always offer a pre wedding photo shoot to my wedding couples. Due to my style of wedding photography being so natural and unobtrusive, I feel it really helps couples to relax in front of the lens on their wedding day. The photo shoot prepares the bride and groom for discretely being the centre of attention whilst being left to enjoy their day without any distractions. Most wedding couples that book Liberty Pearl are shy in front of the camera, therefore being exposed to this style of photo shoot before the wedding is a perfect taster of what to expect. The couples are always very happy with the results.

I am really looking forward to this fabulous couple’s wedding in October at the beautiful Tavistock Town Hall in Devon xxx

Engagement shoot – Brobury Scar Woods Hereforshire

The sun was shining down through the treetops to highlight this beautiful couple on their Pre Wedding photo shoot. We were really lucky with the weather, though I think not even rain could have washed the smile off their faces. The couple who walking so lovingly through Brobury Scar Woods in Herefordshire, were happy as could be.  The woodland was very impressive with tall trees enveloped by leafy moss and lightened by beautiful natural sunshine.

To finish off the pre wedding shoot we walked through a stunning field full of bright yellow rapeseed flowers, it was like walking through an angelic yellow heaven. The couple were full of many smiles and kisses!

I’m really looking forward to their beautiful wedding this summer in Brobury House in Herefordshire, which has some beautiful gardens and grounds, positioned high above the river Wye xx

Engagement Shoot – Whitsand Bay Beach Cornwall

What a lovely pre-wedding photo shoot on Whitsand Bay Beach, Cornwall. The sunshine illuminated the couple’s happiness perfectly and they had lots of fun strolling along this amazing beach.
The sky had a wonderful deep blue which highlighted the impressive cliffs surrounding the sand on the beach was a warm shade of golden caramel and spanned for miles.

Here is a sneak peek video from their photo shoot (made by the amazing Pearl Productions)

The couple are getting married this summer at the magical wedding venue Boconnoc House Estate in Cornwall. This beautiful wedding village is a unique and hidden location in Cornwall and lies at the end of a sweeping drive through magnificent parkland. The lawns in front of the house boast views across the parkland and down to the lake in the valley. I am very excited about capturing the couple’s wedding at this beautiful Cornish wedding venue in a few weeks time.
