How to choose your wedding venue from a photography point of view

Devon and Cornwall wedding venue

Let’s face it; your wedding will be amazing from start to finish wherever you decide to get married.

But if you’re like us and value your photography and how your images look, here are some top tips to help you think about which venue will work best for you as a couple.

Here at Liberty Pearl Photography & Film Collective, we love everything to do with the outdoors.

Being able to capture the natural beauty of the various seasons makes us really happy and so we have compiled these top five tips if you’re starting your search for your venue:

  1. Always begin your search by looking for outside space. How will the area look in different seasons? Think about any ideas that you have for themes and how this will complement what you already have available.Hotel Endleigh Devon wedding photographer
  2. Do you have exclusive use of the venue? We have to admit that we find it so much better when our couples do. It means you don’t get someone else wandering into the back of your photographs. Exceptions to this include lovely golf clubs where you can still find lots of space away from any other guests.
  3. Can you decorate the venue yourself injecting your style to reflect you as a couple? This isn’t essential but it’s definitely a great one to look out for as the more unique you can make your venue, the better. It also means your photographs will reflect this too.
  4. Visit your preferred venue at different times of the day and on different days of the week. This will help you to see it in different lights and will help you envisage how it could look for you and your guests.Magical elopement woodland nature wedding
  5. Have a look to see if there are any lovely archways or areas that you really like. That way you can discuss them with your photographer and light allowing on the day, they will be able to capture some of them for you.Italy Ibiza destination wedding photographer

We would always advise going with your initial feeling about a venue.

If it feels right, it will be the one for you.

If you’re thinking about venues but finding it hard to choose, please feel free to contact us for some suggestions, we are the recommended supplier for a number of weddings in the UK.

We photograph weddings across Devon and Cornwall and further afield in the UK and internationally, and it’s highly likely that we have experience of the venue that you have in mind.

Happy wedding planning!

Ollie and Becky’s Special Wedding at Deer Park Country House Hotel

It has to be said that Deer Park Country House Hotel in Devon is one of our favourite all time wedding venues.

Not only is it stunning, but when it rains, as it did for Becky

and Ollie’s special day, it’s still possible to capture some beautiful moments making the most of its country-chic interiors.

And what a wedding it was – it was literally incredible!

Love, joy and happiness flowed in abundance, despite the torrential downpour mid-afternoon – which we’re pleased to say finally let up later in the evening.

Thankfully both Becky and Ollie embraced the weather and smiled throughout – which meant that they now have a set of wonderful photographs to treasure.

And as a bonus, when the sun did eventually make an appearance we were able to make the most of the beautiful golden light and the 80 acres of stunning grounds, in time for sunset.

Needless to say Becky looked stunning in her Suzanne Neville dress, which was offset by the natural flowers from Emma at Brompton Buds. Each of the bridesmaids looked elegantly stylish in their Phase Eight dresses, whilst Ollie and the boys looked suave in their suits by Jonathan Hawkes.

We’re so glad that we were able to capture such a beautiful wedding at this truly special venue. And the sun shining at the end of the day provided the icing on the cake.

We hope you enjoy the photographs!

My first wedding photography workshop was a success!

I had such an amazing day yesterday at Deer Park Hotel in Honiton, with a group of 8 very talented photographers! We spent the day getting know each other and talking about our businesses and our journeys so far!

It was my first ever wedding photography business workshop and I loved every minute of it! There was so much I wanted to talk about and share with the aspiring wedding photographers about my business!

It definitely was a day of inspiration, growth, opportunity and fellowship with like minded creatives! I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I cannot wait to share the photos and the feedback with you all!

I am now extremely excited about workshop 2 in a few weeks time, which involves a styled wedding photo shoot to enhance your portfolio!!

P.S. If you would like further information about any of my workshops please visit my workshop webpage and fill out the contact form.

My first wedding photography workshop is here!

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS WORKSHOPI am so pleased to announce that my very first wedding photography workshop is here! This is something that has been on my heart for sometime and I am so pleased I have finally launched the first of many workshop dates.

I quit my well paid full time job to start a wedding photography business in November 2013. I started completely from scratch, with no business training whatsoever.

I can honestly say that there have been many challenges and mistakes made along the way. I worked all the hours of the day and night to make my business succeed, but if I had been told the things I know now, I would have saved myself a lot of time, money, and sleepless nights.

I believe that everyone has the ability to create a successful business that they are not only proud of, passionate about, but also completely in love with! My company is less than 3 years old and has already achieved the following accolades: Winner of Plymouth’s Top Photographer 2015, nominated for The Guardian best new start up award 2014, finalist in the Westcountry Wedding Awards 2015, finalist in the South West Wedding Awards 2016!

When I started my business there were no courses to help address the needs of a new wedding photography business, and I wish there had been. Generic start up business courses were available, however they just weren’t creative or specific enough and I couldn’t relate my business to the advice they gave.

If you would like to join like minded creatives for a day of inspiration, growth, opportunity and fellowship please visit my wedding photography workshop webpage for further information about this unique wedding photography learning experience.

Engagement shoot – Devon Saunton Sands beach

I had such a lovely day with Kat and Chris on a beautiful Devon beach in March for their pre wedding portrait session. It was a perfect day and the couple were blessed with glorious sunshine. Here is a sneak peek from the amazing beach engagement photo shoot at Saunton Sands in Devon. It was wonderful to meet the lovely couple again and I am very much looking forward to their beautiful wedding at Deer Park Country House Hotel in the summer. I love being a wedding photographer in Devon.  xxxxx
