Weddings on the big day

On your wedding day you will hardly notice I am there! I aim to be discreet so that the documentary wedding photography is completely natural. That way, you can both just relax and enjoy the proceedings.

Your wedding photography includes the bridal preparations, ceremony, reception and the afternoon/evening celebrations. Evening coverage normally features the speeches, cutting of the cake and the first dance, but can include additional activities if required!

I also offer a wedding vintage photo booth option – a fun and entertaining way to capture all of your guests in an informal and creative way.

The usual process for the big day is as follows; this can, of course, be altered as required.

Arrival

I arrive about an hour before you leave your home or hotel to get married and after a brief introduction start quietly shooting your preparations. I capture the bridal party getting ready and all the tiny wedding details around the house/hotel room including bouquet, shoes, dresses etc. I am happy to be left to my own devices if you are busy or running late; there are always plenty of opportunities for images. I aim to leave just before the bride so I can be ready and waiting at the church or ceremony venue for your arrival.

Before the Ceremony

I am able to shoot the groom’s party getting ready if time permits; otherwise I can capture the groom and the guests waiting at the church or wedding venue.

When I arrive I briefly discuss the photography rules with the person in charge (normally the vicar or registrar). I have found from experience that it is best to do this on the day face-to-face rather than beforehand.

It is common for some restrictions to be placed on photography such as “no flash photography”. However, this is not a problem because I use specialist lowlight equipment which makes flash unnecessary.

I will shoot discreetly throughout your ceremony or as discussed during the final planning meeting.

After the Ceremony

I spend the rest of the day with you or your guests, following the action in whatever form it takes, but from a distance. You won’t even know I am there whilst I capture your memories to create your personal photo story. We can head off for the bride and groom portrait session whenever it is a convenient time for you. I am very flexible and do not want to take you away from enjoying time mingling with your friends and family on this important day.

If you do require formal or group shots, these will normally be undertaken before the sit down meal. During the meal, I usually take a break and then I shoot the speeches and the general reportage that surrounds the reception — old friends seeing one another after years, people having fun and children playing; these all add to the story and may be moments you miss whilst mingling with other guests.

Cutting the Cake and Last Dance

I photograph your cake cutting and your first dance if that is how you have planned your day. I finish by taking photos of the evening guests as they arrive and your friends and family jiving on the dance floor. Once we are both happy that I have covered all the elements you require, I will leave to let you enjoy the rest of the celebrations.

Weather conditions

Liberty Pearl always plans for the event of bad weather conditions. Liberty Pearl always discusses plans with you for alternative shoot locations before the big day. All equipment used by Liberty Pearl is designed for use in adverse as well as perfect weather conditions, and weather certainly won’t prevent you from having stunning pictures. In fact, one of Liberty Pearl’s favourite weddings was shot on a wet summer’s day.

Our wedding photos are always filled with love and happiness whatever the weather, so please don’t worry about rain, sleet or snow!
