Women in Photography Conference and Exhibition September 2017 Plymouth

Women in Photography Conference Plymouth Liberty Pearl Photography Wedding Devon and Cornwall

Women Who Support Women

Founded by Amber Leach of Liberty Pearl Photography, the Women in Photography conference brings female photographers & videographers in Devon and Cornwall together to learn and support each other in a growing community setting.

Recognising underrepresentation in the local community, Amber organised the first event in August 2016 in Plymouth, booking speakers who could tell important stories, showcase their talents, who travelled and inspired with their work. Amber has since held 3 successful events with 100 attendees so far and a growing fanbase.

Our First Anniversary

Now becoming recognised as the platform to showcase female creative talent in Devon & Cornwall, passionate like-minded women come together to support each other to celebrate each other’s successes, learn from each other’s challenges and to empower each other to focus on solutions.

2017 notes the first anniversary event so we want it to be bigger and better, so it will be hosted at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel in Plymouth. Not only will we host a conference, but we’ll also be organising an exhibition to showcase talent within the community.

We believe in community over competition, so we asked our members to nominate the speakers for this event, asking who they admired and were inspired by, whether personally or professionally.

With Women in Photography you’ll find women who:

  • provide mutual motivation and encouragement
  • provide unique opportunities to collaborate
  • believe in community over competition
  • look for friendship and support
  • are active in a private Facebook group to chat, share and collaborate in a safe and supportive space

It’s very exciting to meet and collaborate with established and new faces alike!

SUPPORTING IMPORTANT CAUSES

At each event we charge an entrance fee. The monies raised go to carefully selected charities based in the UK and internationally.

The charities are:

Locally supported  Young Mother and Baby Housing unit in the Plymouth area.

Girl Rising: Educating girls can break cycles of poverty in just one generation, yet millions of girls aren’t in school. Girl Rising uses storytelling to inspire action that gets girls into classrooms worldwide.

Girl Impact: The Girl Impact is a collaborative project based in South Africa. Their goal is to support and educate young girls to help them make more informed decisions as they move towards womanhood.

Restore: a local project that exists to help survivors of human trafficking by guiding them through a process of rehabilitation to a normal, steady life.

Mission Possible: Christian Missions and Aid organisation that has been operating in Eastern Europe for 40 years.

For this reason, we are seeking sponsorship to cover costs of holding the event. Specifically, we need sponsorship for:

  • Printing and framing costs for exhibition
  • Catering & drinks for the exhibition
  • Marketing & PR for the conference & exhibition

Hayne Devon Wedding Gardens & Wedding Venue Visit

Hayne Devon Wedding Venue Photographer Liberty Pearl Photography

We had the best time visiting this this absolutely beautiful wedding venue today! As you can tell from the photos I absolutely love flowers and I feel so happy when surrounded by nature.

Today Hayne Devon had it’s gardens open for the National Garden Scheme. Hayne has a magical Walled Garden brimming with mature trees, shrubs, roses and borders. Highlights include beautiful tree peonies, mature wisteria in both purple and white and rambling wild roses in combination with a more modern Piet Oudolf style perennial planting which surrounds the recently renovated grade II* farm buildings … magic, mystery and soul by the spadeful!

Hayne, devon is a young and creative wedding and events space. Set In The Rolling Hills Of Rural Mid Devon. The historic 17th century Threshing Barn looks out towards sacred groves of woodland and lies in the heart of 25 acres of glorious grounds and enchanting gardens. South facing, the site gets the first and last of the sun and has breath-taking views across an ancient valley which steps down to a bend in River Yeo.

Wedding Photography at Trevenna Barns Cornwall

I LOVE THE IN BETWEEN MOMENTS

I have just delivered this beautiful wedding to a gorgeous couple who were married at Trevenna Barns, in Cornwall.

Ash and Kate wedding Trevenna Barns wedding photography in Cornwall

It’s an exciting moment when I deliver a couple’s wedding photos to them, I’m always waiting on the edge of my seat for their feedback, and it’s always lovely to hear their kind words and praise, but it’s also very sad because it is the last step of our wedding journey together.

I love getting to know my clients and finding out about their adventures together, how they met, how they got engaged, and why they chose their venue, it really helps me to capture the best in every couple on their wedding day.

I absolutely love this photo! It sums up the couple just perfectly

So in love and and so happy!

Associate Wedding Photographers in Devon and Cornwall

DEVON WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER LIBERTY PEARL PHOTOGRAPHY EXPANDS TO MEET GROWING DEMAND

Liberty Pearl Photography is delighted to announce it is expanding its team to incorporate four new Associate female wedding photographers.

It means the Plymouth based wedding photography company is now able to offer the same high levels of customer service to brides and grooms for all dates, both in the UK and internationally.

All photography will be overseen and edited by Liberty Pearl Photography’s founder and Photographic Director, Amber Leach. She was inspired to launch the business in 2013 by her daughter of the same name, who was 4 years-old at the time.

Since then, the company has gone from strength to strength. Amber’s work is regularly featured in well-known publications and wedding blogs including Love my Dress, Rock My Wedding and Whimsical Wonderland Weddings.

With values which include believing in the importance of marriage, providing a personal service, and capturing a couple’s special day as they dreamt it would be, demand has continued to increase.

Liberty Pearl Photography’s founder Amber Leach said, “I’m delighted to be able to expand the team in this way and to be working with so many exceptionally talented women. Not only are each of the Associates true professionals, but they understand the ethos of the company; to make each couple’s wedding day the best it can be, and to capture each moment, unobtrusively as their story unfolds.”

The five Associate wedding photographers include:

  • Kate – a working mum who loves to capture weddings beautifully
  • Philly – a yoga lover who loves photographing organic, beautiful moments that sometimes go unseen
  • Louise – whose favourite wedding moment is to capture the bride and groom walking back down the aisle as man and wife
  • Meg – a fan of music, who loves capturing natural photographs of couples in beautiful surroundings
  • Claire – loves being part of your day and capturing your friends and family as they are including all the fun and laughter!

Each of the Associates, who are professional photographers in their own right, went through a rigorous practical interview process before they became part of the Liberty Pearl Photography team.

They each have their reasons for wanting to work with the company but admit to being inspired by Amber, and her vision for excellence within the wedding industry.

Last year, she started a Women in Photography networking conference for like-minded photographers and film makers, to get together and be inspired by other females in the industry. It has gone on to be a resounding success. Amber also  set up a series of wedding photography workshops so she give other photographers the head start she never had.

Wedding videography in Devon and Cornwall

We have some very exciting news at Liberty Pearl HQ to share with you today….

We have are now offering wedding videography in Devon and Cornwall to our services and would love to share our most recent wedding highlights film with you.

After sharing the film less than a week ago, we have had 5 bookings for wedding videography! and have been asked by a number of our current wedding couples if they can have wedding photography and videography and the answer is YES!

Why have we started making wedding films?

Many of our past couples said they wished they had captured their wedding with videography and regretted not doing so. I had a wedding film and absoltely loved every second of it, it brought a tear to my eye watching the 3 minute movie, I think I must have watched it over 50 times before I went to bed that night. There were so many little moments, reactions, smiles, tears and expressions captured that we would have never seen if it weren’t for our video.

After hearing so many couples saying they regretted not having wedding videography, I thought I would try and capture some of the love, joy and happiness I am exposed to at weddings in a highlights film.

We are extremely happy with the results of our destination wedding highlights film captured in Ibiza in June 2017 …..as were our lovely bride and groom Alice and Luke!

Please watch their 3 minutes of happiness in the highlights film below

Why have a wedding video as well as photography?

If I had to decide between wedding videography and wedding photography, I simply wouldn’t be able to….. they are both so beautiful and so special in their own way….

However if you have videographer you can replay the most special moments in your life. You may not think you want to relive every minute, but after the day you have been meticulously planning for months flies by in what feels like seconds, you will be desperate for a way to remember it.

A wedding video means everyone can share the joy

It is important to remember that not all of our friends or family can attend an event due to health problems, conflicting schedules, or unexpected emergencies. Therefore a beautifully edited wedding film will be of great comfort to those friends and family who were not able to make the event itself as the entire day will be saved from start to finish forever, so that you can relive your perfect day over and over and share it with those most important to you.

How do we capture the films?

We use the same cameras to capture images and film, we still capture your day with a natural, unobtrusive, relaxed, reportage approach so there is no need to worry about any extra interference on the day. The only thing you might see is a tripod during the ceremony and speeches but we will try and blend it in as much as we can.

Which areas do we cover?

We offer wedding videography in Devon and Cornwall, and also in London, Brighton, Scotland…. in fact we cover the whole of the UK!
You can also book our services for destination wedding videography in Ibiza, France, Greece, Italy, New York, you name it we can go there, and did I mention we love to travel…..

Please contact us for our price list for wedding videography. You will receive up to £500 off  if you also book your wedding photography or elopement with us.

Remember: A wedding is a live event, not a single moment. Make sure you get it captured right – you’re only going to do it once.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Have a beautiful week xxx

To plug or to unplug your wedding that is the question

When I married my husband a year ago today – I loved our guests having their phones because I enjoyed seeing the images that everyone captured. It helped me to see the day through their eyes.

But equally I know that some couples prefer to ‘release’ the official photographs when they want to, which is of course their choice too. Either way I thought it would be good to look at plugged (with phones) and unplugged ceremonies (without them) as it is such a hot topic of discussion in the wedding industry at the moment.

As a professional photographer, there is nothing worse than a guest stepping out in front of you to get an image of the bride and groom when they walk back down the aisle.

It can ruin that split second you have to capture a special moment. That moment that becomes forever lost behind the suit jacket of a well-meaning guest.

Everyone who owns a decent smart phone now believes they too are photographers. With Instagram filters and touch of the button editing, it’s easier to create some truly breath-taking images on a mobile. But there is a reason why a couple have invested their money in a professional photographer when it comes to their wedding.

The understanding about composition, posing and above all else light, means that the images stand the test of time. These are the ones that are framed, or end up in the wedding album for generations to come. The pictures that reflect a couple’s special day as they dreamt it would be.

I have been to wedding ceremonies where there has been a ban on all cameras except mine. I have also been to weddings where I have had to contend with guests in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Whilst I really liked looking through the images my friends took at my wedding, I hope they didn’t make it too difficult for the photographer to do their job on the day.

We’re lucky in that we have a beautiful set of photographs to treasure.

But I hope that our guests actually experienced the wedding in person, and not just from the view finder of their camera phone.

Having a plugged or unplugged wedding has to be your decision. It’s just worth having a think during the planning stages about what will work best for you.

Is the wedding industry a rip off?

Is the wedding industry a rip off Pland and presents wedding blog Devon wedding photographer

Such a fab article from Alison at the PLANS AND PRESENTS wedding blog, about the wedding industry. I know lots of people who have had to give up their beautiful creative businesses because they just don’t pay the bills!

People don’t realise how much all the ‘behind the scenes’ items cost especially for photography, people think I make XX per day after looking at my wedding photography fees, I have had comments such as “you make more in a day than I make in a month!” but really the profit is very very low or non existent after paying for all the licenses, insurances, equipment, stationery, fuel, staff, marketing, branding, office costs, storage, computers, online galleries, advertising, car, websites, tax, VAT, national insurance, the list could go on….

Liberty Pearl Photography Wedding Workshop

Since I started my business I work on average in the office 50 hours per week and if I have a wedding or photo shoots that week it could go up to 70 hours! So my hourly rate is pretty awful to be honest. I didn’t taken a proper holiday (which didn’t include a destination wedding) for 2 years and I had flu pretty much the entire time I was away because I was so run down, and I haven’t had the time to take one since!

So you may ask why I and other wedding suppliers have chosen this career?

I for one love making people happy! I love providing a bespoke, creative, personalised service that suits my clients needs, I love working hard to make their wedding day so special, I love meeting new people, and getting to know them and spend time with them planning their wedding day, I love visiting beautiful wedding venues all over the world and seeing how couples add their own personal touch with their wedding styling. I love sharing such a special day with couples and capturing their family heirlooms that will last a life time.

If wedding suppliers were working in the industry simply for the money I don’t think there would be an industry to be quite honest!!!

So before you criticise people in the wedding industries or other creative industries, please think about all the behind the scenes work that goes into the beautifully hand crafted products, the sacrifices they make to their social life and their families by working weekends and during the holiday seasons, and the amount of pure LOVE they have for the industry, their wedding couples, and making every wedding day so unique and so very special! xx

A stunning peach and grey themed wedding at Dartington Hall…

We loved photographing Megan and Jonny’s gorgeous and relaxed wedding at Dartington Hall.

Megan used to visit the manor house as a child, and knew it was the place she wanted to be married in.

It’s the largest medieval manor house in the West of England and it’s easy to see why it’s described as “possibly one of the most romantic venues in the South West.”

Both from Exeter, Megan and Jonny met at work and he popped the question whilst they were away celebrating their second anniversary. It meant that they had two years to plan their special day, and the attention to detail shone through with their stunning peach and grey theme.

Opting for a dress by Eliza Jane Howell, they were married in the Upper Gatehouse and their reception was held in the 14th century Great Hall.

Complementing the theme, Jonny wore a Ted Baker morning coat in dark grey, with a light grey waistcoat and a peach bow tie.

Highlights include Jonny seeing Megan for the first time when the doors opened and the beautiful firework display at the end of the evening with all of their guests gathered around.

It was a picture perfect day and we’re so happy to have been able to capture it for them.

5 reasons to hire a professional wedding photographer over a friend

Did you know that the number one regret of couples after their wedding is not investing enough in capturing their day? Some couples wish they invested in a videographer as well as a photographer while others wish they spent more on getting the best photos on their wedding day. Unfortunately, these regrets come after the wedding – once it’s too late.

devon wedding photographer Deer Park Hotel Liberty Pearl Photography

While taking up the services a talented friend may save you money, it’s likely to cost you precious memories. Even if they are good at what they do, they’ll probably miss out on capturing candid moments and may not be able to work the crowd – both of which are essential for good wedding photography.

Why invest in a professional?

the-green-cornwall-summer-wedding-liberty-pearl-photography

  1. They understand the fundamentals of wedding photography

A wedding photographer comes with years of experience. They understand the technical side of taking good photos as well as the creative and emotional side. An amateur photographer, however, doesn’t always have the right experience or professionalism. Shooting landscapes and capturing stunning moments from their holidays doesn’t make them a good candidate for your wedding. A wedding photographer needs to understand how to work in different types of light and how to exploit angles and poses. They also need to know all those must-have shots you’ll want to have in your album.
polhawn-fort-cornwall-summer-wedding-liberty-pearl-photography-5

  1. They own the proper kit

If you don’t know that much about photography, it’s difficult to tell whether a photographer’s set up is good or not. Often, we’ll think that someone with a DSLR is more than capable of taking excellent photographs. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. A professional photographer carries around thousands of pounds worth of kit. Their camera is likely to cost thousands more than any amateur. They’ll also have other accessories to help them catch those essential shots and deal with low light conditions. Most importantly, they know how to properly use their kit – which is a lot harder than you might think.
st-ives-guild-hall-cornwall-wedding-liberty-pearl-photography-3

  1. They guarantee full coverage

Wedding photography is about more than good photos. A wedding photographer needs to know how to work a crowd, interact with guests and capture moments at exactly the right time. A friend may struggle to organise groups for photographs or miss sentimental moments as they’re off enjoying the celebrations themselves. As a friend, they deserve to be enjoying the party – which in turn will sacrifice the quality of and number of good photographs.

st-ives-guild-hall-cornwall-wedding-liberty-pearl-photography

  1. You only get one chance

Your wedding day only happens once, so it’s well worth making the investment. You will never be able to capture the special moments of the day again. Once the wedding is over, all you really have left – in terms of memories – is your photographs. cape-town-south-africa-nooitgedacht-estate-summer-wedding-liberty-pearl-photography

  1. A professional puts time into post-production too

The post-production (editing) process is as important as the photography. It usually takes more time too. It allows a professional photographer to offer something very special and creates that unique look and style each professional is known for. By editing photos on your behalf, I’ll make sure you’re left with an album of photos you adore – rather than leaving you to choose from the best of a mediocre bunch.
